The Daniel Libeskind–designed house comprises just 2,000 square feet—except that none of its rooms are, in fact, square.
“You come upon it from below—a gleaming chocolate-and-plum-colored crystal nestled on a pillow of New England hillside. Acres of scraggly woods have been cleared away, leaving a few ancient oaks, a low stone wall, and a vast cascading meadow. The house sits in a fold of the slope, tucked away beneath the crest. At first blush it looks too low and cramped for an adult to enter, like the den of a particularly stylish Hobbit. But its stature is deceptive, as with almost everything else about it. The first private residence designed by Daniel Libeskind is at once modest and palatial, private and theatrical, inviting and aloof. It’s a little enclave of exhibitionism stowed out of sight. “You don’t need to impress with size,” Libeskind says. “You can keep it modest but still make it a spectacular place to live.”

You can now start to understand why there is so much buzz about this Daniel Libeskind designed private residence in northern CT. The use of stainless steel paneling and custom Crittall Steel windows and doors adds to the uniqueness of this project. It resembles more of a sculpture than a residence. C N Renovations of NJ did a fantastic job as the GC on this project and the overall fit and finish including the custom mill work and bathroom fixtures are phenomenal.

As one of the country’s leading distributors of Bronze Windows and Doors, I have become more interested bronze and some of its uses. I have done some research which has divulged some fascinating facts about how bronze has been used for thousands of years for items such as doors, statues, art work, musical instruments, etc. Bronze doors can be found in Florence at the Baptistery of St. John which has been named “The gates of paradise”. You can also find bronze double doors over 21 ft tall at the Pantheon. St. Peters Basilica also boats impressive bronze doors that can be seen in the photos below.

Bronze is a metal alloy consisting primarily of copper, usually with tin as the main additive, but sometimes with other elements such as phosphorus, manganese, aluminum, or silicon. It is hard and brittle, and it was particularly significant in antiquity, giving its name to the Bronze Age. The word Bronze is believed to be cognate with the Italian: bronzo and German: brunst, perhaps ultimately taken from the Persian word birinj (“bronze”) or possibly from the Latin name of the city of Brindisi

The Bronze used in our windows and doors is far more superior to most others on the market. It is made from 67% bronze and 33%Zinc. We primarily utilize bronze from Germany as they are well known for a quality product. It arrives to the factory in large sheet rolls that are approximately 3’ wide and 500’ long. From there it is sent through a series of 50-60 rollers which forms it into different shapes which are used as our section profiles.

When left in its natural state, Bronze will begin to produce surface oxidation which is a called a patina. This process is what creates its unique rustic appearance and creates the beautiful patina everyone admires. Bronze is maintenance free and will never rust. Our windows and doors can be supplied in a high luster bronze or a natural bronze finish. We can also achieve the desired level of patina using an acid oxidizing process to speed up the natural process. You can also use bronze for the exterior and use any of our other finishes including Stainless steel, core ten, painted steel or even wood for the interior surface.

We are excited to introduce our new Thermally Broken Steel Window and Door series.

This product is the answer to one of the most frequently asked questions. Steel windows have been widely sought after for high end residential and commercial projects requiring a specific look and feel, however the poor thermal performance has always been an issue.
While thermally broken sections have been available for several years, our new Thermo Series is the first to offer the narrow sightlines of traditional hot rolled steel sections with the much needed benifit of a true thermal break. This product is now available in painted Steel, Bronze, Stainless steel and Corten Steel.

Thermally broken steel windows attract attention in Colorado area projects due their outstanding thermal performace and abitity to accept up to 1 1/4″ thick insuated glass.
Colorado has one of the strictest energy codes in the country posing a challenge for architects wanting to design their buildings with hot rolled steel windows and doors.
